Oh the things I do for my clients! Climbing on top of car transporters to get a panorama of the SMA Leeds site.

All the President's men (and a woman)

The West Yorkshire Society of Chartered Accountants held their Leeds annual dinner at the Queens hotel. Pictured is the President with other district societies presidents and the ICAEW president. What a lot of presidents!

Trainspotting

Image
A trip all the way to the top of the Dales yesterday, supposedly to photograph the newly repainted Tornado steam train . A 2 hour drive and a 2 hour wait and then a passer by told me it had broken down in Wales the day before. Hey ho! But meantime I got some shots of other trains going over the Ribblehead viaduct, and on the way back I stopped at Embsay for a bacon butty in the cafe at the steam railway , so managed to get a pic of a steam train, even if it wasn't the one I was meant to get.

Calendar Girls

Image
Half the girls from Rylstone Women's Institute at the dinner & fashion show in aid of Macmillan cancer support at the Craiglands hotel. I first photographed the girls when the film came out and have seen them several times over the years. My dad was chuffed when I managed to get them to sign a calendar.

Is being a photographer all about being an S E O expert?

Bit of time to ponder today over what seems to be happening to a lot of industries these days. The internet is great for attracting clients from far and wide. But are those clients being drawn to those in the industry who seem to spend much of their time optimising their websites for Google, rather than those of us who have gained experience over many years in the photography and video businesses? Worse than that, I have recently heard of someone who during the week works in a bank, but has set up a website claiming to be a "wedding photographer" but has used royalty free stock images to populate his website instead of any he's taken! But because he's optimised his website well, he's attracting a lot of brides who are disappointed with his results. Time for some proper regulation methinks, to weed out the cowboys? Perhaps this is something for the photography and video trade associations to address instead of promoting themselves within the trade?
